La Crosse, WI (WXOW) - The Bangor-Burns Fire Department picked up a brand new fire truck last week. Last year they applied for a grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or F.E.M.A., and just finished the process.
Seven members of the department drove to South Dakota last Thursday to pick up the $340,000 truck.
The department applied to F.E.M.A. two years ago, and didn't find out they received the grant until last year.
This pumper tanker truck will replace two older trucks, both are more than thirty years old. The older trucks that this one will replace were unsafe and in need of repairs.
"We can haul four in the back, two in the front. It's a really nice new design. It's real quiet inside so you can hear everybody talking so you can design your plan when you're going out to the scene," said Bangor-Burns Fire Chief Bob Rueckheim.
Chief Rueckheim added that without grants like these, they would have to depend on the residents of their area for the funding.
