MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- In a bipartisan show of support, two Wisconsin members of Congress are teaming up to try to shield manufacturers from unfair trade practices by countries such as China and Vietnam.
U.S. Reps. Reid Ribble and Tammy Baldwin have introduced legislation that would amend a 1930 tariff law to allow duties to be applied in certain markets. It's a measure that could benefit Wisconsin's paper-makers and other industries.
Ribble is a Republican from Sherwood, and Baldwin is a Democrat from Madison.
Their legislation would reverse a December ruling by a federal appeals court that said the U.S. Commerce Department had no legal authority to impose tariffs on imports that were subsidized by their host countries.
A Post-Crescent of Appleton report says both lawmakers say it's time to counteract China's cheating.
