LA CRESCENT, Minnesota (WXOW) - They call Minnesota the "State of Hockey," and this past weekend, La Crescent proved why.
The La Crescent Community Arena hosted the 2012 PeeWee B District 9 tournament. Teams from across the entire southern half of the state converged on the community of about 5000 battling for two spots at the state regional in the twin cities.
"It's been tremendously competitive," said Lancer Youth Hockey President Mike Hackworth. "That's the great thing about local youth hockey--everybody's so involved and so dedicated, that even if you have small numbers, people are so dedicated and hard working that they make things happen, make teams competitive, and make it fun for everybody involved."
Rochester Black is already on to the next round. St. Peter/Le Seuer and Waseca will play for the final spot next Saturday in Faribault.
