EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Eau Claire school district will take part in a national study on teaching kids how to make smart money choices.
The five week course will begin this spring and will focus on teaching 4th and 5th grade students about money management. The program is part of a national study to determine the best age to teach students about finances.
Michelle Trug from UW- Madison's Center for Financial Security says, "The 4th and 5th grade age group is a group that hasn't been studied necessarily as much. And they are a great age to work with because they've had some exposure and maybe have some understanding of financial topics."
The study is being paid for by the US Department of Treasury. Depending on the results, the course could be used as a blueprint for teachers across the country.
