Menomonie, WISCONSIN (WXOW) Onalaska advanced to the WIAA division 2 sectional final for the 4th year in a row thanks to a 57-47 win over Rice Lake Thursday at UW-Stout.
It was a highly anticipated match-up between the top two ranked teams in the state in division 2.
The Hilltoppers went on an 11-2 run in the second quarter to take a 27-18 halftime lead.
Ben Socha had 14 of his 20 points in the first half to lead the Hilltoppers.
Matt Thomas chipped in 19, 16 in the second half.
Onalaska will play Antigo Saturday in Marshfield at 2pm for the right to go to State.
In division one, Central lost a heart-breaker to D.C. Everest 37-32.
Central led by one going into the 4th quarter but the Evergreens hit some key free throws down the stretch to end Central's season.
In division three, G-E-T beat Prescott 53-38 at Osseo.
Riley Bambenek led the way with 24 points and Tim Wagner had 11.
The Red Hawks will play Somerset Saturday in River Falls at 7pm for the right to go to State.
In division four, Bangor and Luther went overtime before Luther prevailed 72-65.
It's Luther's first trip to the Sectional Final since becoming a member of the WIAA.
They will play top-ranked Cuba City Saturday in Baraboo at 1:30pm.
