Wisconsin man catches Illinois' biggest walleye

CHICAGO (AP) -- It is official: A Wisconsin man now holds the record for the largest walleye ever caught in Illinois waters.

Dan Sallee of the state's Department of Natural Resources says he confirmed on Monday afternoon that Jim Zimmerman of Beloit now holds the record. Zimmerman caught the 15.08 pound walleye on Sunday in the Pecatonica River about 20 miles south of the Wisconsin-Illinois border.

The fish replaces in the record book a 14 pound, 12 ounce walleye that a 15-year-old northern Illinois high school freshman caught on the same river.

Nick Tassoni's catch on Jan. 7 broke a record that had stood since 1961.
