Recall Election: Absentee Voters

Posted:

LA CROSSE,WI(WXOW)--Dates for Wisconsin's recall elections have not been officially set, but La Crosse County Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer says the county is preparing for the recall elections.

The GAB voted unanimously yesterday on May 8th and June 5th for the dates. But the final decision is now up to a Dane County Judge who is expected to rule on those dates on Wednesday.

Dankmeyer says proposed election dates will give the County enough time to mail out absentee ballots when they become available. But she says it will be a tight turn around from the primary election on April 3rd.

Dankmeyer says her concern right now is making sure people know when to request and send their absentee ballots.

"With these elections happening in the summer, the absentee ballot request definitely goes up," said Dankmeyer. "We witnessed that last year too so if you know you're going to be out of town when these elections are happening make sure you contact your Municipal Clerk and get an absentee ballot request form into them and they'll make sure they get those ballots mailed out to you as soon as they're available."

The last day to request an absentee ballot is the Thursday before the selected election date.

When sending your absentee ballots in by mail, keep in mind they must be post-marked no later than the election date. They will still be counted if they arrive by 4 o'clock Friday afternoon following the election.
