STODDARD, Wis. (AP) - A federal wildlife group is asking for the public's help in naming seven islands in the Mississippi River near Stoddard, Wis.

The contest is organized by the La Crosse District of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge.

The agency asks that suggested names reflect the area's habitat, geology, geography, history, wildlife and plant life.

Proper names aren't allowed. That means you can't try naming them after yourself or any other person.

Each person is limited to one name submission per island. Entries must include a reason why the name should be selected.

Judging will be conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources and Mississippi River Wild.
