LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Hail the size of baseballs, and up to a dozen tornadoes ripped through one of the nation's most densely populated metropolitan areas Tuesday.
Hundreds of homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed by these violent storms in northern Texas on Tuesday. Thousands remained without electricity Wednesday morning. The Dallas Fort Worth International airport reported damage to at least 110 airplanes, and over 1000 stranded passengers due to flight cancellations.
Video taken during the outbreak show semi trailers being tossed about in the winds estimated in excess of 130mph.
Despite the powerful nature of these storms, amazingly, no one was killed. Dallas Texas Mayor Michael Rawlings said the community dodged a bullet; "I think we've counted three people taken to the hospital we're looking at a miracle here, it really is something amazing."
Survey teams from the National Weather Service have confirmed EF-3 damage in at least one Dallas suburb. Numerous areas EF-1 and EF-2 tornado damage have also been confirmed.
