WAUSAU, Wisconsin (WXOW) - An injured bald eagle that was hurt last week is recovering. This bald eagle was injured during a territorial fight last week in Wausau. The Raptor Education group taking care of the bird says the eagle has a spinal injury, which means his mate will have to raise their babies on her own. That's tough, since eagles usually mate for life. But in some cases, eagles do find another partner.
Marge Gibson, Executive Director of the Raptor Education Group says, "We're not going to count him out yet. We're hoping that it's good news. It wont be for a while, and his mate is probably going to wonder where the heck he is."
If the bird doesn't fully recover, he'll move to a new home, like a zoo. Territorial fights, like the one that injured this eagle, are common at this time of year. But usually, the injuries are not as serious.
