Detour for Onalaska street project

Posted:

ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Drivers headed north on Highway 35 through Onalaska will need to plan for a detour.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is re-routing traffic from 2nd Avenue to 4th Avenue in Onalaska.

DOT Project Manager Joe Gregas says in a release that the detour will last until July 24th.  Crews are reconstructing 2nd Avenue between Elm and Poplar Street.

Gregas states local traffic can still access the area during construction.

Its part of a $4.6 million plan to improve the busy stretch of road.  The goal is to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Besides new roadway, the project adds new sidewalks, signals, lighting, and streetscaping.

The work is set for completion in November.
