SAYNER (WAOW) -- It was an emotional day in Vilas County as family and friends gathered to support each other in the search for Sandra Schinke of Sayner.
"Bless those close to Sandra, whose hearts are breaking, use us to surround them, hold them through these terrible days," said Dan Borchers, pastor of Community Congregational Church UCC in St. Germain.
Sandra Schinke's daughter, Joni McIntee was one of more than a hundred people who gathered at the St. Germain Community Center to pray for her missing mother.
McIntee said all this support gives her hope.
"We're going to pray, and I just hope all goes well, and today I'll keep in my heart maybe she'll come," said McIntee.
Sandra Schinke has been missing for more than a week. Her husband said support from family, friends, and complete strangers keeps him going.
"My thoughts today were with so many prayers going on in this building that it's going to be answered," said Jim Schinke.
The Vilas County Sheriff also made an appearance. He asked people to report any information they might have that could lead authorities to Sandra Schinke.
The sheriff said he has never seen a case like this during his 35 years on the job.
"Regardless of whether Mrs. Schinke intentionally harmed herself or left the area, normally we do have some kind of evidence to suggest what happened," said Frank Tomlanovich, Vilas County Sheriff.
Like the rest of the Schinke Family, he is wrestling with the lack of evidence in the case.
"It's very frustrating we haven't located Mrs. Schinke," said Tomlanovich.
But, the sheriff said an event like this brings some comfort.
"It's nice to see this outpouring of support. I don't think people realize how many friends they have until tragedy strikes," said Tomlanovich.
The Vilas County Sheriff said small volunteer groups are still searching trails for Sandra Schinke today.
He also said authorities are hoping to find some clues by looking at her phone and computer. But, that data might not be available for weeks.
