LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - It's often said lightning doesn't strike the same spot twice. UW-La Crosse baseball proved that theory wrong Saturday when they won not once but twice by a walk-off, extending their current win-streak out to four games.
Eagles led game one Sunday for most of the game, but in the top of the 9th, the Titans scored on a throwing error from Jay Fanta to even the score at one. They added two more runs in the frame taking a 3-1 advantage.
UW-L wouldn't go away without a fight. With bases loaded, Cole Cefalu shot a base-hit up the middle to plate two runs and tie the game at three. That set up a chance for a third-straight walk-off. Fanta would get his redemption via a game-winning base-hit. UW-L took game one 4-3 in dramatic fashion.
They trailed 8-3 at one point in game two but rallied back to take an 8-8 tie with the Titans into the 12th inning. This time, Adam Cordova delivered the fourth walk-off base-hit in as many games for a 9-8 win. With the sweep of Oshkosh, UW-L improves to 10-2 in the WIAC and keeps a firm hold of first place.
