No Wisconsin Best Buy locations were among the 42 confirmed for closure Saturday by the electronics retailer.
A couple of neighboring states were not so lucky, with the company announcing it would close six locations in Minnesota and six in Illinois. Five of the six in Minnesota are in the Twin Cities area. The remaining store closing is in Rochester.
Best Buy previously announced it would close 50 stores this year to focus on its more profitable locations, while also cutting 400 corporate jobs and trimming $800 million in costs.
Best Buy plans to open 100 smaller Best Buy Mobile stores.
The company is trying to avoid the fate of Circuit City, which went out of business in 2009. It says most of the 50 stores will be closed by the end of the summer.
On Tuesday, Best Buy said CEO Brian Dunn had resigned after the board of directors began investigating his "personal conduct."
The company lost $1.7 billion in the most recent quarter, partly because of restructuring costs.
