Man charged with impersonating police officer

Eau Claire (WQOW) - An Eau Claire man is charged with impersonating a police officer.

William Leazott faces a felony charge. A man told police Leazott was parked next to him in an Eau Claire parking lot Wednesday night.

The man had been showing his friends guns that he had used for target shooting that day.  He says Leazott came over, said he was with the drug task force, and ordered him to hand over his guns. The man says he did not believe Leazott, and asked to see a badge. He says instead, Leazott pretended to call for police backup, and continued to insist he was with the drug task force and needed to confiscate the guns.

Leazott then allegedly walked to his truck, got a beer, and offered one to the man before leaving.  Police arrested him a short time later.
