3 in custody after robbery, chase in Red Wing

RED WING, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Three suspects are in custody after an armed robbery at the Walmart store in Red Wing early Monday morning.

According to Police Chief Tim Sletten, a man entered the store with a handgun and demanded money from a clerk just after midnight.  The suspect left the store with an undetermined amount of cash and was last seen running across the parking lot.

A Goodhue County sheriff's deputy in the area saw a vehicle leave the lot at a high rate of speed and tried to make a traffic stop, but the car sped off.

A short time later, the vehicle left the highway and traveled across a plowed field.  The vehicle was later found abandoned in the field with a handgun inside.

Around 2:45 a.m., a 21-year-old man with no permanent address and a 22-year-old man from Red Wing were arrested near where the car was found.  They had a backpack with them that contained money believed to have been taken from Walmart.

A 20-year-old man from Red Wing was later arrested for his involvement in the robbery.
