Gas leak in downtown La Crosse

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Streets in part of downtown La Crosse were blocked off for a short time Thursday after construction workers hit a gas main.

A crew installing fiber optic cable struck the line at the corner of 8th and State Sts. around 12:15pm.

Besides the La Crosse Fire Department, Xcel Energy workers responded and took about 20 minutes to close the leak.

While that occured, La Crosse Police blocked off streets around that area as a precaution.

No evacuations or injuries were reported.
