Barrett, Falk lead field of Democrats in Wisconsin recall primary election

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin Democrats faced with picking the best candidate to take on Republican Gov. Scott Walker in a June 5 recall election can choose between two who lost previous statewide races, a former dairy farmer and a politician with a famous last name.

Whoever emerges from the May 8 primary has four weeks to make the case against Walker. Walker was targeted after effectively ending collective bargaining for public workers last year as part of a move he said was needed to help balance Wisconsin's budget. Foes said it was a political move aimed at weakening the traditional Democratic backers.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk are the leading Democrats. The other two are Secretary of State Doug La Follette and state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout. Gladys Huber is a Republican running as a Democrat. Arthur Kohl-Riggs is running against Walker as a Republican.
