LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Some are turning to motorcycles to save money.

More than 500,000 Wisconsin residents have motorcycle licenses or permits.

More than 300,000 motorcycles are registered in the state.

And...May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

The La Crosse Police Department suggests that car and SUV drivers should watch for smaller vehicles, and motorcyclists should drive defensively.

Aside from these tips, the police department emphasizes the importance for motorcyclists to wear their helmets at all times when riding.
