MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Wisconsin candidates for state Senate are showing off their campaign bank balances, an early indicator of strength ahead of upcoming recall elections.
The largest bankroll belongs to Republican state Sen. Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau. On Monday he reported raising $230,000, and has $430,000 cash on hand.
That gives him a sizeable advantage over his likely challenger. Democrat Lori Compas of Fort Atkinson raised $100,000 and has $85,000 on hand.
Elsewhere, Democratic state Rep. Donna Seidel of Wausau raised $97,000 and has $38,000 in the bank. She's the likely opponent of Republican state Rep. Jerry Petrowski of Marathon, who raised $87,000 and has nearly $79,000 on hand.
Republican Sen. Van Wanggaard raised about $157,000 to defend his seat.
Democratic primaries will be held for each race on Tuesday, May 8th.
