La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) It took a couple of days but UW-La Crosse's Derek Dreher is going to get that NFL opportunity after all.
Dreher accepted an invitation to tryout with the Baltimore Ravens.
Dreher told News 19 during a workout two weeks ago that he had worked out in front of pro scouts at a regional combine in Atlanta and again at Wisconsin's pro day.
He'll report to Ravens rookie mini-camp May 10th with the hopes of impressing the coaches enough to signs a free-agent deal.
"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity. It's what I've been working for. This is just another stepping stone to reaching my goal of playing in the NFL. What better place to go than Baltimore where they stress defense. They've had some great defensive success. I'm excited about the opportunity and can't wait to show what I can do," Dreher told News 19 Tuesday.
Dreher was a Division III First Team All-America this past season for the Eagles.
He says he'll compete at both safety and cornerback spots with the Ravens.
