New Books for Tomah Second Graders Thanks to Tools for Schools

Posted:

TOMAH, Wisconsin (WXOW)- Second graders at Lemonweir Elementary School in Tomah will be able to continue their Daily Five reading program, thanks to the Tools for Schools Reward.

Jenny McCoy, the students' teacher, was April recipient of the Tools for Schools award from WXOW, SSE Music, and Honda Motorwerks.  $300 is given to a teacher and their class to help purchase classroom materials and programs.

The Daily Five reading program involves the students using different reading, writing, and vocabulary stations to improve reading comprehension and skills.  The Five include reading to self, reading to others, spelling, writing, and listening to books on tape.  The Tools for Schools award will help purchase additional books and books on tape, as the program was lacking enough reading materials to cover each student.

Teachers interested in applying for the Tools for Schools can go to this link on our website: http://www.wxow.com/category/225828/tools-for-schools.   WXOW honors one teacher each month.
