La Crosse, WI (WXOW)—Tonight, a vigil for Sara Hougom, was attended by friends, family and even people who never met her.
Hundreds of people gathered as a DJ played Sara's favorite songs. Then the group released pink and white LED balloons in to the sky in honor of the 20-year old who was murdered a little over a month ago.
T-shirts sold at the event were designed by Sara's boyfriend, Scott. And on the back, Sara's senior quote: "You don't' get to choose how you're going to die or when. You can only decide how you're going to live now."
The event was put on by Karlyee Heidemann, a junior at UW-L.
After the balloons were released, Sara's family thanked everyone for the support over the last month. Then the entire crowed joined in a group hug, surrounding Sara's younger brother.
