TOWN OF CAMPBELL,WI(WXOW)--Six fire fighters from the Town of Campbell spent the day at Summit Elementary School on French Island.
Fire fighters were there as a part of the school's Environmental Day. They focused on fire and water safety.
One group learned the proper ways to wear a life jacket, and other boating and water safety skills.
Fire fighter Jeff Nylander said with summer just around the corner, they know kids are going to be out on the river. They want to make sure kids know how to be safe.
"We really emphasize the life jackets, how they fit, which ones are best, which ones look really cool but aren't the safest especially for the smaller kids,"said Nylander.
Third graders all learned about the color, size and fit of life jackets and why all aspects are important.
Making sure the jacket fits and cannot slip over their heads is what's most important. Nylander said a bright orange jacket is preferable over a darker color so boaters can see them.
