Spooner (WQOW)- Local anglers can rejoice because the fishing opener has finally arrived.
The weather wasn't the best on Saturday for area fisherman trying their luck to land the big one. Governor Walker was able to get out on the lake early Saturday morning in Spooner before speaking in Eau Claire. He says although it's often tough to find time to hop in the boat and thrown in a reel, he always enjoys this time of the year.
"Other than catching a tiny little baby small bass, which we threw right back in, didn't get anything big," the governor laughs. "Actually, one of your colleagues in news got a nice northern. I saw a few other folks out there but anytime you are out on the water is a good time. Anytime you are away from work, in our case, away from the capitol, is a good time. A lot of great people up in Spooner and Trego Lake helping us enjoy the morning."
The Governor's Fishing Opener was held at Washburn County's Trego Flowage this weekend. Lake Wissota hosted the opener last year.
