Riverside Park Bike Race

Posted:

La Crosse, WI (WXOW)-- More than 200 bicyclists competed in various races this weekend, and it concluded today with a criterium down at Riverside Park.

Bikers divided into groups by age and gender, rode in a loop around the Radisson for an hour. It's the fourth year for the criterium, and one of the most challenging parts of the weekend bike race with the winds coming off the river.

"That close to other riders, at that kind of speed, and putting in a hard effort," said the announcer of the criterium, Ralph Heath. "When you're out in front, it takes 30 percent more energy than when you're in the back. So there's a lot of strategy to the whole thing."

Teams received points for events throughout the weekend and the winning teams received cash prizes.
