Green flag flies at Speedway

WEST SALEM, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Thunder boomed at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway last weekend, but it wasn't the kind fans and drivers were expecting.

Mother Nature canceled the scheduled opener. Fortunately, she saw fit this past weekend to let the drivers make the Coulee Region roar.

In some thrilling action Saturday night, La Crosse's Brad Powell won the first Late Model feature race. Steve Carlson of West Salem would finish second after leading the entire way in the Six for Six Shootout. Mike Carlson, also of West Salem, finished third in the feature.

There was plenty of other action as well. In the Thunderstox series, Sparta's Jason Bolster won the feature race, but not before going fender-to-fender with Cashton's Chris Weber on the final lap of heat one. Weber edged out Bolster in that heat to take the checkered flag.

Racing at the Speedway continues Saturday May 12th.
