Dems battle fakes in Senate recall primaries

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Democrats are trying to fend off challenges from fake candidates and move on to face three Republican state senators in next month's recall elections. The contests were sparked by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's divisive union rights restrictions and the senators' support for them.

Lori Compas ultimately looks to oust Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald. John Lehman wants to take Sen. Van Wanggaard's job. Kristen Dexter wants Sen. Terry Moulton's seat. And state Rep. Donna Seidel hopes to defeat Rep. Jerry Petrowski for an open Senate seat.

First, they must get past four Republicans running as Democrats in Tuesday's primary. The fakes haven't mounted any serious campaigns, but their presence prolongs the process and gives incumbents more time to campaign ahead of the June 5 recall election.
