LA CROSSE,WI (WXOW)--An override of La Crosse Mayor Matt Harter's veto has restored city funding to Downtown Main Street Incorporated. Mainstreet Executive Director Tim Kabat said he's pleased with the restored funding of $19,000 dollars.
Kabat said DMI had already planned to use that money for new programming.
For example, Downtown La Crosse Crazy Days' this year will also include a street dance.
Downtown business partner, Allison Krzych is helping organize the dance. She said many of the events that make downtown La Crosse great would not be possible without the work that Downtown Mainstreet Inc. provides.
"Typically cities support their downtown organizations roughly about 20 percent of their total budget, so really the City of La Crosse supports our downtown by giving about 10 percent of our operating budget,"said Krzych.
Krzych adds that DMI is a non-profit organization and does not directly benefit from the City money. She said she hopes the street dance will provide another reason to attend Crazy Days.
The Street Dance will take place near Piggy's and Wine Guyz.
