Wis. student eliminated from National Spelling Bee

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin's lone entrant has been eliminated from the 85th National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C.

Fourteen-year-old Heloise Cheruvalath an eighth-grader at North Middle School in Menomonee Falls, correctly spelled two words during Wednesday's preliminary round. But the Wisconsin State Journal reports she spelled only 39 out of 50 words correctly in a computer test spellers took Tuesday.

Cheruvalath had a final score of 20. That fell short of the 23 points needed to make the semifinals.

She says she's happy she got that far and it was "a good experience."
