
La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) It came down to the very last event, but the wait was worth it for the Aquinas girls track team.
The Blugolds captured the division 2 state title at the WIAA State Track Meet Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Sports Complex.
Aquinas entered the final event, the 4 by 400 relay, in 6th place.
But the team of Katrina Von Arx, Kate Riley, Annie Joslyn and Maddie Haupert finished third in the event.
That earned the Blugolds 6 points and lifted them into first place in the team standings.
It's the first WIAA track title for the Aquinas girls program.
Katrina Von Arx got the day started with a 5th place finish in the division 2 pole vault.
Senior Maddy Haupert won the 800 meters after taking third in the 1600 meter run.
The Blugolds began the day with just one team point and finished with 31.5
