Merrill teacher, coach fired following drug investigation

The Merrill School Board has fired a middle school teacher and coach after an investigation conducted by the district.

In a news release, the district's legal counsel said Jay Peterson has been terminated "for his conduct involving the use and possession of marijuana and his failure to respond truthfully to inquiries from the Administration during the course of its investigation."

Peterson has been charged with possessing the main ingredient found in marijuana. He has pleaded not guilty.

Peterson is one of several educators from Langlade and Lincoln Counties at the center of a major drug investigation.
