Candlelight vigil for young drowning victims

Family and friends of Emma Maurer and Sydnie Kwiatkowski gathered for a candlelight vigil Saturday night at La Fallotte Park, near Lake Kegonsa, where the bodies of the 16-year-old girls were found on Friday.

It was a chance for the community to come together and pay their respects, and an opportunity for some of Maurer's classmates to remember their friend.

"She definitely won't be forgotten, but if anything she'll be remembered as a really funny person, always caring about other people and sometimes forgetting about herself," said Marisa Lundlum. "She was really a selfless person, she really cared about other people."

Stoughton high wrapped up classes last week, but school administrators say counselors will be at the school next week to any student who wants to talk about the loss of their classmates.
