GENOA, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Roughly 30 percent of freshwater mussels in the United States are extinct or endangered according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
There are efforts to help protect and grow the mussels. In fact, the largest recovery project in North America is found in the tanks and waters of the Genoa National Fish Hatchery.
