LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Move over spring baseball, the boys of summer are back. And, for the first time, area Legion baseball teams will play as part of the Coulee Region American Legion Baseball League.
The league consists of 20 teams split into two divisions. And on Monday, 18 of those were in action--including West Salem and the La Crosse Raiders in an inter-divisional match-up.
West Salem got off to a quick start in the top of the first. Joey Liebel lifted a double into center scoring the baserunner from second, putting them up 1-0.
They would go on top 3-0 in the inning, but Jerred Ambrose stopped the bleeding with a called strike three to end the frame. La Crosse would then try to respond in the bottom half of the inning, but Liebel's diving grab on a line-drive to second highlighted a scoreless frame for the Raiders.
West Salem would have no problem after that. They win 16-5, improving to 2-0 on the early season.
