Emerald ash borer found in Walworth County

LAKE GENEVA (WKOW) -- A tree-killing beetle has been found in another county in Wisconsin.

The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) says the emerald ash borer was discovered in two locations in Walworth County -- one in downtown Lake Geneva, the other about 10 miles southwest of Lake Geneva.

The invasive pest feeds on ash trees and eventually kills them.

The ash borer has been found in nine other Wisconsin counties: Brown, Crawford, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Vernon and Washington.

DATCP says Walworth County will be quarantined soon. Neighboring counties may be added to the quarantine pending further review. EAB quarantines currently exist in Brown, Crawford, Fond du Lac, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Vernon, Washington and Waukesha counties.
