Eau Claire (WQOW)- Area legislators got together to talk about issues they would like to focus on now that the recall election is over.
Each month the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce holds an eggs and issues breakfast. This month area legislatures discussed their goals in moving Wisconsin forward.
Frac sand mining was one of the topics discussed at the breakfast. One focus was on reviewing the non-metallic mining laws in Wisconsin.
"They were written sometime ago, things changed. And like I said, they were written and designed with relatively small operations, not taking out the amount of volume that they are currently taking out with the frac sand mining. We don't necessarily have to change them we should at least review them to make sure that they are meeting the necessary needs and requirements of the people of the state," said Chris Danou, 91st Assembly District representative.
Other goals included tax reform, job creation and to continue to have vibrant rural communities.
"Particularly when you look at some of the states to our west that's what concerns me, that we'll end up that way where we have basically one big city in a state, nothing else, and I don't want to see that happen. I want to have good strong rural communities and a lot of that is done by the policies and the things that the state pursues and the things we choose to invest in," added Danou.
Danou says investing in rural schools is critical to maintaining those communities as strong vibrant places.
