LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - They went 15 inning against Eau Claire on Wednesday, followed that with a rainout on Thursday, a doubleheader on Friday and a rain-delayed 12:30 a.m. finish Saturday night. And on Sunday, the Loggers would win their 8th straight game.
La Crosse got off to a hot start in the 2nd against the Wisconsin Woodchucks when Tyler Kuresa slapped a base hit to the opposite field. Matt Chapman scored from second to give the Loggers a 2-0 lead.
They added insurance on Tyler Servais's two-run blast in the bottom of the 3rd. La Crosse went up 4-0 against the Chucks.
That would be more than enough cushion for Alex Gunn who pitched eight innings, giving up no earned runs and striking out six. Gunn got his third win of the season to improve to 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA. The Loggers hung on to win 4-2 over Wisconsin.
"I just felt comfortable," Gunn said. "I pitched against them before earlier in my second start, so I knew how the guys hit and how to go against them. So, it just worked out today."
The Loggers record improved to 14-5 with the win, helping them maintain a firm grasp of first in the NWL South Division. They hit the road for four games starting Monday night in Battle Creek, MI.
