Heat Safety Tips

Posted:

La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The heat will be around awhile and when it's here there are some tips you should keep in mind.

Pay attention to the forecast so you're not surprised by conditions. Also, drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. If you're thirsty, you're already behind in your fluid intake. Also, wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. And, budget time for rest when you've been in the heat for extended periods.

Jay Clark, Operations Supervisor for Tri-State Ambulance, said, "The most important thing...I think...is to start your day, before you walk out...prepared...sun screen, good choice of clothing, and plenty of fluids that will be with you throughout the day."

Jay added that you should also remember to replace the salt and other nutrients your body is losing through sweat with a salty snack or a sports drink.
