La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A prison sentence for the Sparta man convicted of burglarizing more than 20 garages and vehicles in the Onalaska area.
28-year-old Nicholas Marcum was sentenced today to 2 years in prison with 9 years of probation. The prosecution referred to the number people Marcum victimized by entering their property. The defense suggested that his lack of medication and troubled past were to blame. Judge Gonzalez read a list to the court of the 34 victims and the amount of restitution each is owed. That totals less than 5000 dollars.
Judge Gonzalez said, "So you do have to go to prison Mr. Marcum...because you have to pay for all those individuals who no longer can feel free...to sleep in their homes without locking all of their doors including their garages and their car doors."
Marcum did tell the court he is willing to do anything for any of the victims and that he is sorry.
