Honolulu, HI (WXOW)- After Sparta native Mark Schaitel death on the way back to Pearl Harbor the group dedicated their trip to Mark.
One of their first stops in Hawaii was at the USS Arizona visitors center. The vets watched video taken at Pearl Harbor during the attack. The film was chilling and some of the survivors had a hard time watching. The survivors also walked the grounds sharing their December 7th stories. Park Ranger Robert Burk says the Wisconsin group was one of the largest group of survivors to ever visit the memorial and the most memorable of his career. "Its special for what it represents. When we look out at the memorial we see the Arizona and the Missouri. The bookends of the war. These folks bring everything that we stand for at this park."
