Ford Island, HI (WXOW)- The USS Utah, also sunk by Japanese torpedoes, still remains in Pearl Harbor. Her partially submerged hull sits just above the water off Ford Island, rusting with 54 men entombed inside.
Shortly after the attack, Chuck Davis searched the harbor for survivors. He says it was the worst duty he was ever assigned. Chuck doubted he would find anyone alive until he reached the Utah. "I was on a motor launch picking up guys. There was two sitting on the capsized ship and I took them to the landing."
Chuck never saw the men again but he believes they survived. Other than being wet and stranded, neither man appeared injured.
