Changes for La Crosse residents and their refuse

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Changes have come for La Crosse residents and how they take care of their garbage.

The city modified their recycling and refuse regulations.

The major changes involve:

  • All trash must be placed in trash cans, no larger than 48 gallons
  • Large items must not weigh more than 200 pounds
  • A maximum of four large items can be picked up per collection
  • Large electronics such as TV's and computer monitors will no longer be collected.

Public Works Director Dale Hexom says the goal of the changes is to improve the appearance of the city and to make people more responsible for the trash their generating.

The city is mailing out notices to residents to let them know about the changes.
