LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - La Crosse Doctor Brenda Rooney was recently recognized for making the community healthier.
Rooney was named a 2012 Obesity Prevention Superhero by the Wisconsin Partnership for Activity and Nutrition.
Among her accomplishments is the La Crosse County Dining Guide, which identifies area restaurants with healthy eating options.
Rooney says that people can change the current trend of rising obesity rates by working to create a culture that values wellness.
"I'd hope that we could look out and see people biking all over the place, and people having access to fruits and vegetables--and them being inexpensive," Rooney said.
Doctor Rooney was one of 12 people honored by the state for doing transformative work in their communities.
She works throughout the La Crosse area to promote physical activity and chronic disease prevention.
