Authorities: Fitchburg homicide victim planned to buy drugs

FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Court records filed Monday show an Iowa man came to Fitchburg to buy drugs before he was fatally shot.

An affidavit with a request for a search warrant filed in Dane County Court states 25-year-old Samuel Harris of Dubuque came to Fitchburg to buy illegal drugs, apparently intending to resell them in Iowa.

Authorities say the man who met Harris for the drug deal was 21-year-old Bobby Hogans of Madison. Hogans remains jailed on tentative charges of felony murder and armed robbery. Two other men have also been arrested in connection to the homicide investigation.

Records state a handgun, holsters and a digital scale were among the items seized during a search of Harris' truck.

Records also show a Fitchburg police officer saw Harris in his truck at a Fitchburg shopping center ten minutes before authorities were contacted about a shooting.
