Men prepare to walk in heels for abuse awareness

Posted:

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—It's time for gentlemen to dust off their high heels for the Third Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes on Thursday evening at 6:00.

The purpose of the event is to raise money and awareness for domestic abuse and violence against women by walking two laps (one mile) around Riverside Park in high heels.

"The idea is for men and women to walk in high heels or walk in women's shoes to feel the slight pinch of that particular activity that reminds us that domestic violence victims are hurting and they need our support and our help both financially and emotionally," Mary Kay Wolf, YWCA Executive Director said.

She said while it's funny to watch men try to walk in high heels they take it seriously.

"They are taking a stand and they're making a difference with out really saying a word and I think its important to them to have that ability to do that," Wolf said.

Money raised goes to the Carilee Fund and the YWCA.

So far, 270 people are signed up for the walk.  If you're interested in walking you can sign up with representative at Riverfest or on the day of the event.

Check in/shoe pick up begins at 2:00 p.m. and the walk begins at 6:00 p.m.
