LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Just in time for La Crosse's version of rush hour, a manhole collapses into the sewer system along Copeland Avenue, which forced the closure of one lane on a busy downtown street.
The collapse happened on the southbound lanes around 330pm at the intersection of Copeland and La Crosse Street.
A spokesperson for the city's Public Works department says the collapse is not due to the heat, but most likely due to age and the amount of traffic.
While one southbound lane remains open, the spokesperson asks that drivers use an alternative route if possible.
It is expected to take several days to repair the collapsed area.
