Work continues on manhole cave-in

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Crews are working to repair the damage near La Crosse Street on Copeland Avenue.

Part of the street caved in around a manhole on July 5.

The manhole is an access point for Centurylink.

The company's manager for market development, Kim Valiquette, said they're covering the manhole and will use another access point.

The work should be complete by Tuesday.

"The advice to people traveling that road, whether they're coming into La Crosse on Copeland Avenue coming up to La Crosse Street is really to take another, alternate route," said Dale Hexom, Director of La Crosse Public Works.

Valiquette said age and the heat may have contributed to the cave-in.
