Dozens sickened after swimming on Lake Wazee

Jackson County (WQOW) - Dozens of people have gotten sick and now residents are being warned not to swim at an area beach.

The Jackson County Health Department says there have been more than 40 confirmed cases of children and adults getting sick after swimming in Lake Wazee Park. People who swam in the lake over the Fourth of July holiday are reporting flu-like symptoms.  

The health department believes the illnesses may be related to swimming but is still waiting for results from water quality tests.  The health department has posted a warning at the beach and people are being asked not to swim until further notice.

Jackson County (Press Release) - A number of people reported a stomach flu like illness after visiting Lake Wazee Park in Black River Falls during the 4th of July. 

At this time the Jackson County Health Department and Jackson County Forestry and Parks are investigating possible sources of this illness. These agencies believe this illness may be related to swimming in Lake Wazee, however test results are pending.

Water advisories have been posted at the beach as a precautionary measure and persons are asked not to swim until further notice.
