La Crosse, WI (WXOW) ---- Police have a 34-year-old father, Aaron Schaffhausen, in custody. On Tuesday at approximately 3:30 PM River Falls police were dispatched to a domestic and welfare check.
The caller is the ex wife of Schaffhausen and the mother of their three children, all girls, ages 5 to 11. Police say the mother called because she was concerned for their well-being. When officers arrived at the home the gas fireplace was on and an odor of what was believed to be flammable liquid was coming from the basement.
While there, officers discovered the bodies of three children. The young girls are being examined at the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office. The suspect, Aaron Schaffhausen, the girls father, is currently being held in the St. Croix County Jail and is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
Police Chief Roger Leque of River Falls says, "I'm sorry we don't want to speculate as to the injuries or the cause of death. We're not looking at any other suspects but I can tell you've I've been in River Falls for more than 30 years and this is the worst we've seen."
